About IsocorNatural cork harvested from Portugal's select Quercus Suber L. forests offers a high-performance and sustainable material alternative across insulation, acoustics, cosmetics, sports surfaces, footwear, furniture, stoppers and industrial applications.
Raw material
Cork is harvested from the bark of the cork oak (Quercus Suber L.) without harming the tree, every 9 years — a lightweight, water/gas-impermeable, elastic and durable material. It delivers natural, long-lasting performance in thermal, acoustic and vibration insulation. The cork oak spreads across the Mediterranean basin, and the vast majority of production comes from Portugal.
The first harvest is usually done when the tree reaches 25–30 years of age, between June and August. After this "virgin cork", the "secundeira" and "amadia" harvests are repeated every 9 years.
Cork oak ecosystems regulate the water cycle, reduce erosion and act as carbon sinks in favor of the climate. They are vital for species such as the imperial eagle, the Iberian lynx and the black stork.
It contains ~45% suberin and 27% lignin; thanks to its honeycomb cellular structure it is lightweight, elastic, flame-resistant and offers excellent insulation performance.
